April 13, 2017 by Duncan Smith

Question: Councillor D. Smith
“To ask the Chief Executive to write to the Management company
responsible for Applewood Village to repair and replace damaged
ramps on Applewood Main St as they are causing a health and safety
concern?”

A letter issued to Applewood Management Company Ltd on the 13th
March 2017 requesting them to repair the broken ramps and damaged
roadway at Applewood Main Street. Correspondence was received on the
22nd March 2017 from a third party stating that the area in question is
owned and under the control of a separate entity other than Applewood
Management Company Ltd. Applewood Management Company Ltd has
notified the agents who act for the owners of this section of Main Street
Applewood and it is their understanding that the party who owns this

Motion: Councillor D. Smith
“That this Committee agrees a work plan to install a pedestrian crossing beyond
the Y Junction of Brackenstown Road and Church Road to include the shifting of
the path on the Brackenstown Road leading up to this junction to the other side
of the road (as per details supplied)”

Report:

given to how pedestrians could be encouraged to cross to the church side of the

Motion: Councillor D. Smith
“That this Committee agrees to provide parking bays at the Swords end of the
Swords to Malahide Estuary Road, in order to allow, among other things, people
involved in birdwatching and birdwatch studies to take part in studies during
winter months.”

Report:
Malahide Estuary is a Special Protection Area (SPA), designated under Directive
2009/147/EC on the conservation of wild birds (Birds Directive).
The environmental implications of any development likely to have an impact on
any SAC have to be assessed irrespective of the location of the development. In
some cases this may require a full Environmental Assessment.
Prior to consideration being given to the provision of parking bays at the Swords
end of the Malahide Estuary an Environmental Assessment, including
consultation with the National Parks & Wildlife Services (NPWS), to determine if
there are any effects on the SAC would be required.
The provision of parking bays at this location is not considered a priority.

Question: Councillor D. Smith
“To ask the Chief Executive what works are due to take place in Broadmeadow
Linear Park in 2017?”

Reply:
There is a long standing Development Plan objective of providing a path and
cycle lane along the Broadmeadow River which will connect to the coastal
walkway via the Swords Estuary. This will depend on a strategic plan to include
lands further upstream. Provision has been made in local budgets to begin the
process of providing a system of secondary circulatory paths. The Operations
Department will liaise with the Parks and Green Infrastructure Division over the
next few months to ensure any proposed layout of locally installed paths will
complement the longer term objectives and in no way impede future plans.
