9 Social Housing Units in Fingal get the go ahead

December 11, 2014 by Duncan Smith

A motion was put to the Balbriggan/Swords Area Committee for 9 social housing units in Balrothery, North County Dublin. Some local residents raised some concerns regarding the proposal, many of these concerns had validity and can be addressed in future development plans. Personally, the Housing Crisis is the biggest issue in the country and this was the first opportunity in the new Council to vote for new social housing.

I examined the concerns of local residents however I chose to vote for the new housing units. I was happy the Motion passed and that once ratified at the Full Council on 12 January, this development will proceed. The Motion passed despite members of the AAA, PBP, FG and some Independents voting against social housing. This housing crisis will only be solved if we build new houses and this will only occur through votes in meetings like today. The grandstanding the Dáil means nothing unless you back it up at local level. Today Labour and others backed it up.

Below is a short 90 second video of my statement to the meeting this afternoon.
